Snowy Scenes Across the Safari
It was a surprise for all of us at the Safari Park, humans and animals, when we woke up to a fresh blanket of snow this morning. So naturally, we sent our photographer Matt, out and about with our Head of Wildlife, to see what the animals were up to in their transformed surroundings.
Whilst some decided to stay in the warmth of their indoor houses, others, such as the zebras, rhinos, eland, camels and deer, could be seen out and about on the safari, enjoying the feeling of fresh snow under their hooves.
Angela Potter, Head of Wildlife, said, “Our animals were surprised this morning to see a winter wonderland, which is quite unusual for this time of year! Although our animals have well insulated and heated indoor housing, they still may choose to spend short periods out and about, and this was the case this morning when some species such as the zebra and eland, spent time outside in the snowy surroundings. Other species such as the giraffe and Asian rhino chose to stay inside in the warm. We do have some species who prefer it more chilly, such as the red pandas and Bactrian camels, that are naturally equipped to tolerate colder conditions, so they took it all in their stride.”
